JOSEPH M. JOHNSON III

Joseph M. Johnson, III (Joe) was born March 1976 and is a lifetime resident of Decatur, Indiana. He is a 1994 graduate of Bellmont High School, graduated from Indiana University Bloomington in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science, and received his Juris Doctrate Degree from the Ohio Northern Pettit College of Law, Ada, OH, in 2003. Upon obtaining his degree, he returned to his hometown of Decatur, Indiana, to practice law. His main areas of practice are criminal defense, family law, and general civil practice. Joe served as a Deputy Public Defender in Adams County from 2004-2007. In 2007 he was appointed Chief Public Defender of Adams County and served that role thru 2014. As a public defender, Joe handled hundreds of criminal cases, in the courtroom much of that time. During that time he developed good working relationships with prosecutors, judges and court staff. He also has spent extensive time working with clients to effectively and efficiently resolve their legal matters. He was a member of the law firm DeVoss, Johnson, Zwick, Baker and Ainsworth, where he practiced privately with his father, Joseph M. Johnson, II, since 2003. He is a member of the Indiana State Bar Association and the Adams County Bar Association. Joe’s main geographical area of practice is in Adams, Wells, and Jay County.

Joe married to his wife, Amanda (Siefring), in 2001, and they have 3 children. Joe is a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

He enjoys golf, hunting, fishing, and all outdoor activities.
